Inspired by the underwater kelp forests of the California coast, the Follow the Kelp Oyster Plate celebrates the beauty and movement of life beneath the sea. Flowing strands of hand-painted kelp weave through the center of the platter, while each oyster shell is decorated with richly detailed illustrations inspired by real oyster shells, finished with soft pink glazes and touches of yellow and purple.

Inspired by antique Victorian oyster plates, this eight-well oyster server is specially designed to hold 8 oysters and features a center bowl perfect for lemon wedges, mignonette, cocktail sauce, or your favorite garnish. Beyond oyster nights, it also makes a beautiful serving platter for vegetables, chips and dip, shellfish, appetizers, or charcuterie. It can also be beautifully displayed on the wall using a plate hanger.

Each oyster plate is hand-built, hand-painted, and glazed by me, Catherine Rex, in my California studio. Because every piece is individually handmade and painted—never printed or mass-produced—each one is truly one of a kind. Slight variations in color, brushwork, and shape are part of the beauty of handmade ceramics.
